Havana, Jan 11 (ACN) Cuba becomes pro-tempore chair on Thursday of the Group of 77 plus China, the largest multilateral group of countries with 134 member states, representing two thirds of the total membership of the United Nations and 80 percent of the world population.
According to the Cuban Foreign Ministry, this is the first time the island chairs the group of 77 plus china and as part of its objective is the boosting though concrete actions of the objectives contained in the 2030 Agenda as well as promoting solidarity and cooperation in support of the recovery of developing nations from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Cuba expects to transform South-South and Triangular cooperation into a more effective tool, said Cuban foreign minister Bruno Rodriguez as he addressed the 46 Ministerial Meeting of the G 77 plus China, last September in New York.
Cuba will also support the multilateral trade system based on norms, non-discrimination, inclusiveness and transparency and will defend the universal access to education and high-quality healthcare.
