Cuba and Grenada to expand cooperation

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 7 (ACN) Cuba and Grenada will increase collaboration in fields such as agriculture, health care, infrastructure, education, environment and climate change, as agreed during official talks between Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and the Grenadian Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell.

Díaz-Canel is paying his first visit to Grenada in response to an invitation from Mr. Mitchell.

Cuba and Grenada formalized diplomatic relations on April 14, 1979, but they were interrupted following the U.S. invasion of that country in October 1983 and resumed in 1992 as a result of then-Prime Minister Nicholas Brathwaite’s arrangements.

Since 1995, Grenada has voted in favor of the Cuban resolutions against the U.S. blockade submitted to the United Nations General Assembly, and Prime Minister Mitchell has decried the inclusion of Cuba on the list of state sponsors of terrorism.

Nowadays, cooperation with Grenada is taking place mainly in the construction and health care sectors.
