8th CARICOM-Cuba Summit kicks off today in Barbados



HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 6 (ACN) The 8th Caribbean Community ( CARICOM)-Cuba Summit kicked off today at the Barbados Convention Center.

Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Cuban communist party and president of the country, is participating in the regional meeting along with the high-level delegation that is accompanying him on his official visit to that nation.

The Cuban leader assured on Monday that the Summit will be a meeting between Caribbean brothers to continue strengthening relations of friendship, respect, mutual support, solidarity and cooperation for the welfare of our peoples.

For his part, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban foreign minister, said that the CARICOM-Cuba Summit will ratify the principles of brotherhood, gratitude, support in the face of common challenges and cooperation, which guide the ties between Caribbean countries.

The 8th CARICOM-Cuba Summit will take place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, on December 8, 1972, between the first four independent territories of the English-speaking Caribbean (Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago) and Cuba.
