Cuban and Belarusian parliaments sign cooperation agreement

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 5 (ACN) Cuban Political Bureau member Esteban Lazo Hernandez, president of the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP) and of the Council of State, and the heads of the House of Representatives and the Council of the Belarusian Parliament, Vladimir Andreichenko and Natalia Kachanova, respectively, signed in Minsk an inter-parliamentary cooperation agreement with his Belarusian counterparts intended to expand and strengthen ties between the two legislative bodies.

At an earlier meeting, both parties agreed on the need to raise economic and trade relations to the same level as their excellent political bond and on the relevance of parliamentary ties to achieve this goal.

As part of his agenda, Lazo Hernandez laid a wreath on the monument built in honor of the Soviet soldiers and Belarusian partisans who fought against the Nazis and held meetings with Acting Foreign Minister Sergey Aleinik and Evgeny Shestakov, co-chairman of the Cuban-Belarusian Intergovernmental Commission for economic-commercial cooperation, whom the Cuban leader thanked for their country’s support of the Island in the fight against the U.S. blockade and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Esteban Lazo's visit reflects the strong friendship between Belarus and Cuba and will give fresh impetus to the fraternal relations between the two peoples.
