High level commission for inter-parliamentary collaboration created

 HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 30 (ACN) As part of his official visit to the Russian Federation, Cuban Political Bureau member Esteban Lazo Hernandez, president of the National Assembly of People's Power and of the Council of State, and Vyacheslav Volodin, head of the State Duma of the Russian Federal Assembly, signed a memorandum to establish the High Level Commission for Interparliamentary Cooperation between both legislative bodies and scheduled its first meeting for Havana in 2023.

Describing the political links between the Cuban and Russian peoples and governments as excellent, Lazo Hernandez urged his counterpart to work together in order to take economic, trade, financial and cooperation relations to the same level, particularly in the fields of energy, transport, industry, medical-pharmaceutical production, tourism and telecommunications, among others.

In reference to Cuba's complex economic situation as a result of the unprecedented tightening of the U.S. blockade, the pandemic and the current global crisis, he stressed his gratitude for Russia's solidarity, donations, and the statements of the Duma against the said policy and the inclusion of Cuba in the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism.

On his end, Vyacheslav Volodin said that Cuba is more than a strategic ally for Russia and an example of how to defend national sovereignty, independence and freedom despite the said difficulties.
