HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 30 (ACN) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla lamented today the death at the age of 96 of the prominent Chinese communist leader and great friend of Cuba Jiang Zemin and sent his condolences to the Chinese people, party and government.
The decease of the man who was president of the People’s Republic from 1993 to 2003 as a result of leukemia and multiple organ failure was confirmed by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and the State Council, Xinhua news agency reported.
Jiang was born in the eastern town of Yangzhou in 1926 and was appointed general secretary of the CCP in 1989. His last public appearance was on October 1, 2019, at the celebrations for National Day and the 70th anniversary of the proclamation of the National Republic of China.
