HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 23 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez met Wednesday with members of the Jose Marti Cuba-Türkiye Friendship Association, established 20 years ago.
“We have many reasons to be eternally grateful to you,” he told them. “It is not by chance that this is our first activity in this country. (…) We are among friends and brothers who defend common causes and spread the truth about Cuba and the work of the Revolution.”
Díaz-Canel also referred to the strong campaigns to free the Cuban Five imprisoned in the U.S., whose freedom and return to Cuba the Association contributed to achieve, and its support in favor of awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to the Henry Reeve Contingent.
Members of the audience talked of common ideals of independence, equality and social justice, and told the Cuban leader, “Tell us, President, what more can we do for Cuba!”
Díaz-Canel spoke about the concept of creative resistance of the Cuban people, "which is not just any form of resistance, but an effort to keep rising, growing, advancing and developing ourselves using our own talent and defeat the blockade. To this you can contribute by embracing and participating in that creative resistance, and so we will overcome sooner rather than later.”
