Talking in Russia with a family that represents the Homeland

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 20 (ACN) "You surely want us to tell you about Cuba, so let's talk about Cuba," said Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez as he met with about a hundred Cubans a few hours after his arrival in Moscow.

United by affection and the common duty of working for the development of the country, this family included the staff of the Cuban Embassy in Russia—some of them with their children—and members of official entities of the Cuban State in that nation.

“You are an important part of Cuba and you are in a complex trench from where we need results to keep advancing and forging the country's prosperity,” the President said.

He explained the economic and political importance of his tour to hold high-level talks with the governments of Algeria, Turkey, Russia and China to develop joint projects, especially in the field of energy, health and biotechnology, as well as to share ideas and agree on international positions.

Díaz-Canel gave his audience an update of his work agenda, remarking that Algeria offered to reactivate the agreement to supply hydrocarbons—stopped in 2019 because of restrictions related to the U.S. blockade—and set up joint ventures. As to Russia, President Vladimir Putin invited him to the unveiling of the Monument to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, whereas the visit to China will be the first by a Latin American country after the Party Congress.

The Cuban leader reminded his compatriots about the U.S. strategy of ideological and political subversion through the social networks to discredit the Cuban Revolution, which Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez Parilla recently described as "a major intelligence operation". Faced with such facts, Díaz-Canel stressed, “we cannot stand idly by; instead, we must counter imperialist logic with that of socialism".
He talked about the way Cuban vaccines have saved children’s lives and how COVID-19 was eliminated thanks to Cuban medical science and staff, emphasizing that "creative resistance" is the order of the say to overcome difficulties with the country’s own effort and talent.

On their end, those who represent Cuba in Russia referred to the study programs arranged with the Russian Federation, which involve the presence of more than 200 Cuban students in 30 universities across the country.
