Syria Says US Blockade of Cuba is Unjustifiable and Cruel

Havana, Nov 9 (ACN) Syria’s Foreign Minister Faisal Al-Mekdad described the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba as an unjustifiable, unfair and cruel policy.
Following a meeting with Cuban ambassador to Damascus Miguel Porto, the foreign minister told PL news agency that the US siege of Cuba like the one imposed on his country, affects innocent people and their basic needs.

He praised the recent vote against the US blockade at the UN General Assembly –185 out of 193 UN member nations backed the Cuban resolution against the blockade.

The vote proved that Cuba has won the respect of the whole world and of all Latin American, African, Asian countries as well as European nations who respect the island nation, he said.

Syria’s stance against the blockade is part of its faith in the just causes of the world, said the foreign minister and noted that Cuba has always supported the nations who fight for their liberation.

Al-Mekdad also condemned the permanence of a US military base in the Cuban province of Guantanamo and the US occupation of the Al-Hasakah Province in the Jazira Region of Rojava, where Washington plunders local oil, wheat and cotton reserves.

The top Syrian diplomat considered as strategic relations between Damascus and Havana; such links were established in August 1965. He ratified his government willingness to further strengthen bilateral relations in all fields.
