From Belgium, demands to end U.S. blockade of Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 30 (ACN) The Bridges of Love Belgium initiative held yesterday a new mobilization in Brussels to condemn and demand the immediate lifting of the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba.

The emblematic square of the Atomium welcomed once again Cuban residents and Belgians in solidarity with the island, who carried flags and banners calling for an end to the siege that seeks to suffocate the people of the Caribbean country.

The coordinator of Bridges of Love in the European nation, Alberto Alonso, referred to the caravans and rallies they have organized for more than a year against the blockade and thanked those who have participated despite the occasional inclemency of the weather.

According to Alonso, the battle against the blockade that Washington has imposed on Cuba has a long way to go and needs commitment and new initiatives and, in this connection, he disclosed the creation of an association to gather supporters and design actions to strengthen the work in social networks against a siege he considers unjust and in violation of the rights of the Cuban people.

“From now on, even if we are not here every month, they will realize that we will be much more active on other fronts,” he stressed.

Cuba's ambassador to Belgium, Yaira Jimenez, praised the efforts of Cuba supporters and their plans to keep fighting Washington’s 60-plus-year-old aggressive policy.
