St. Vincent and the Grenadines authorizes use of Cuban anti-COVID-19 vaccines



HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 28 (ACN) The ministry of health of St. Vincent and the Grenadines announced on its Facebook social media that Abdala, one of Cuba's anti-COVID-19 vaccines, is now available at vaccination sites in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

With this announcement, St. Vincent and the Grenadines becomes the first country of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to authorize one of the Cuban anti-COVID-19 vaccines.

According to local media, the anti-COVID-19 vaccines available in St. Vincent and the Grenadines are Sputnik V, Sputnik Light, AstraZeneca, as well as Pfizer; and now Abdala.

In that nation, as of December 16, the total number of vaccines administered was 59,702; of which 33,192 were first doses and 25,261 were second ones.

The Cuban anti-COVID-19 vaccine Abdala is one of the immunogens produced at the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) in Havana, and is more than 92 % effective.
