African Group of Diplomats Donate Cuba Funds to Face COVID-19

Havana, Nov 18 (ACN) The African Diplomatic Group accredited in Cuba made official a donation of funds to back the island’s efforts against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The contribution, granted through the UN Development Program—UNDP—will help purchase medicines and medical equipment.

Ignatius Graham, president of the COVID-19 Commission with the Diplomatic Group and ambassador of Zimbabwe, said that the aid reaffirms the historic bonds of friendship with Cuba and other Caribbean countries and also expresses the need to fight common enemies like the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the ceremony at the Angolan Culture Center, UN resident coordinator Consuelo Vidal-Bruce said she was proud to see the alliance established with the African Diplomatic Group.

Cuba and Africa are strongly linked by historic bonds of blood and friendship which intensified after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution following the participation of thousands of Cubans in Africa’s anti-colonialist wars, and in cooperation projects in areas like healthcare, education, sports, agriculture and construction.
