Havana, Aug 2 (ACN) Portuguese lawmaker António Filipe Gaião Rodrigues reiterated on Monday his rejection against the US economic, commercial and financial blockade of the Cuban people and noted that rejecting such policy is a duty of all those who advocate justice.
The lawmaker, who heads the Portugal-Cuba Friendship Group at his country’s parliament ratified his support of Cuba and noted that standing by the Cuban people is a duty of everyone who defends the rights of the peoples to choose their destinies in a sovereign manner, according to an interview offered by the Portuguese congressman posted on the website of the Cuban Parliament.
“We all must reject the blockade and demand its end,” said the lawmaker who is also member of the Portuguese Communist Party Central Committee and he noted that words alone are not enough, concrete actions are needed.
Gaião Rodrigues said Portugal heard of the anti-Cuba political and media operation through media groups controlled by capitalist owners, who spread fake news and mystifications about Cuban reality. The misinformation met the response by progressive sectors that showed their solidarity in front of the Cuban embassy in Lisbon and through a statement signed by outstanding personalities of Portuguese society.
The lawmaker said that the European Union should not accept the extraterritorial imposition of the US blockade and the best way to act is by reinforcing economic cooperation with Cuba.
