Cuban community in the UK condemns U.S. media attacks

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 21 (ACN) The group Cubans in the UK (United Kingdom) issued a statement today condemning the media attacks designed, funded and promoted by the United States, in reference to the recent acts to destabilize the Caribbean nation.

Lies and media manipulations have plagued digital spaces and mainstream media around the world with reports about the violent acts occurred in Cuba and the response of the Cuban authorities and the Cuban people, the organization remarked.

Faced with this avalanche of misinformation, Cubans in the UK denounced the circulation of fake photos and information about alleged murders and even pictures taken elsewhere to confuse people and promote an unfavorable international public opinion about Cuba, largely portrayed as a hotbed of social unrest.

It also pointed out the manipulation by some international media of the photographs of the demonstrations of July 17 in support of the Revolution, which even included the retouching of poster images to make them look like protests by unhappy crowds.

The text, circulated through Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, denounces these platforms for allowing the promotion of hate messages and fueling violence, as well as the way they practice cyber-bullying with total impunity. It also condemns the persistence of the U.S. government's economic, financial and commercial blockade of Cuba for almost six decades and accuses President Joe Biden "of showing a false empathy for the welfare of the Cuban people".
