Governments of Havana and New Orleans Hold Virtual Meeting



Havana, May 25 (ACN) The government of Havana and the Mayor’s Office of the US city of New Orleans held a virtual meeting on Tuesday to address bilateral cultural relations and the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The meeting followed up on a Memo of Understanding signed by authorities of the two cities in November 2019 during celebrations for the 500th birthday of the Cuban capital city.

Havana vice-governor Yanet Hernandez presided over the meeting describing it as fruitful and beneficial for both sides. She underscored the significance of the issues dealt with to advance the accords addressed during the exchange, on the basis of the historic bonds between the two cities.

On the US side was New Orleans’ Mayor LaToya Cantrell, International Relations director Rosine Pena Sanga and the city’s director for Intergovernmental Affairs Arthur C. Walton, along other officials.

Also representing Cuba was Luis Carlos Gongora, general director of Foreign Trade and International Relations at Havana’s provincial government; Felix Mejias, International Relations Director and officials from the provincial health and culture offices.
