Call for international mobilizations against the blockade of Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar. 17 (ACN) The Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) called today on the international solidarity movement to develop joint actions, caravans, sit-ins and marches until the presentation at the UN next May of Cuba's resolution against the 60-plus-year-old U.S. economic blockade of the Island.

Fernando González Llort, president of ICAP, urged to make these demonstrations relevant and noticeable. "Let's show that sharing the fight is the greatest expression of unity", he remarked Wednesday at an online meeting convened by ICAP to support the end of the said genocidal imperial policy and of the media war against Cuba.

“Our enemies have not learned the lesson: the Revolution will never yield to anyone's impositions,” he pointed out.

Gonzalez Llort recalled the intervention of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro at the First World Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba in 1994, when he said: "For us the question of ending the blockade in exchange for political concessions regarding Cuban sovereignty is absolutely unacceptable".

“His words guide us; we know that Cuba is not alone, hundreds of governments and peoples, friends and thousands of solidarity organizations condemn every day such a cruel policy,” he said.

Cuba also denounced that the Trump Administration enforced over 240 measures and sanctions against the Island to cutting off our main sources of financing and sustenance to the country and organized subversive actions to impose U.S. hegemonic policies.

“All this is aggravated by the pandemic. Still, Cuba favors solidarity, sends doctors everywhere to fight the pandemic, and takes pride, albeit humbly, in its five vaccine candidates designed to immunize the entire population before the end of this year.”

He emphasized that Cuba aims for a future of greater development, equity and social justice through profound economic and social changes "to make of our socialism a more prosperous and sustainable work, counting to that end on our greatest wealth, the people".
