HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 3 (ACN) The Cuban permanent representative to the United Nations Agencies in Vienna, Loipa Sánchez Lorenzo, reiterated today that Cuba attaches great importance to the development of nuclear applications for peaceful purposes.
At the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Ms. Sánchez Lorenzo, who is also Havana’s ambassador to Austria, Slovenia and Croatia, talked about the use of nuclear energy in the Island for health and agricultural purposes, including the production of radiopharmaceuticals to improve diagnoses and the treatment of infectious and chronic diseases, among other uses.
As to agriculture, nuclear energy is used in the search for new varieties of grains of food interest.
Cuba holds a firm position of support for the right of all States to develop research, production and use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, without discrimination or conditions.
