HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 26 (ACN) Dozens of organizations of Cubans living in some thirty European countries endorsed on Saturday a statement rejecting the ongoing economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba.
It was released at the completion of the first virtual meeting to support the Caribbean nation in the face of escalating hostility from the government headed by Republican Donald Trump.
We demand the return of the Guantanamo Naval Base, territory illegally occupied by the United States of America in our homeland. We also reject the shameful campaign of discredit orchestrated and financed from Washington against our medical missions and their health personnel, it added.
The associations of Cubans living in Europe ratified with this act their unconditional support to their homeland and reiterated their solidarity with the heroic people of Cuba and its leaders, who in times of pandemic and reinforced blockade, have once again demonstrated their humanism and their incomparable capacity to defend our social project in this context of great global crisis.
The program of the virtual meeting included a speech by Ernesto Soberon Guzman, director general of the Directorate of Consular Affairs and Cubans living abroad of the Cuban foreign ministry, who expressed his satisfaction with the work done by Cubans living in Europe in fostering our values, identity, history and cultural traditions, as well as in organizing and carrying out donations of hospital materials and equipment, which are not available because of the blockade imposed against Cuba.
The event was attended by Cubans living in European Union countries, but also in the United Kingdom and Turkey, and even in Kazakhstan (Central Asia), for a representation of at least 26 nations.
Cubans in Europe agreed on the importance of holding this type of meeting to strengthen unity around Cuba and to counteract the wave of lies and slander that, as part of a discrediting campaign, seek to undermine the love and relationship that Cuba maintains with its nationals abroad.
