Cuban FM: MAS victory in Bolivia is a people victory

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 20 (ACN) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez affirmed that the victory of the Movement towards Socialism (MAS by its Spanish acronym) party in the presidential elections in Bolivia is a victory for the people.

On his Twitter account, Rodriguez congratulated candidates Luis Arce and David Choquehunca, and the MAS party for the 'historic and transcendental victory that will return justice and welfare to the brother Bolivian people.'

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel extended his congratulations to Luis Arce and the party led by former President Evo Morales, which reached a wide lead over its contenders, according to the exit results.

Diaz-Canel praised the results that returned the MAS party to the political power, after the November 2019 coup d'Etat against Morales.

Luis Arce received 52.4% of votes, while candidate Carlos Mesa of Citizens' Community alliance reached 31.5%, according to the poll done by consulting firm Ciesmori.

The Bolivian electoral law establishes that to win in first round, one of the aspirants must obtain 50% plus one votes, or at least 40% with a 10 percentage-point lead over the second most popular candidate.
