HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 1 (ACN) The Party of the European Left (PEL) has prioritized both support to Cuba and the strengthening of the international solidarity movement with the Caribbean island, its president, Heinz Bierbaum, said in a press release.
'We work to strengthen the international solidarity movement and try to influence European policy to change the attitude of the European Union (EU) towards Cuba,' the also leader of the International Commission of the German left Die Linke party told Cuba Si magazine.
The politician acknowledged that progress has been made in recent years, such as the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement signed between the regional bloc and Havana, which allowed the repeal of 'the reactionary common position of 1996.'
However, Bierbaum added, progress is currently facing obstacles due to the Trump administration's pressure through the tightening of the US blockade against Cuba.
'Therefore, today it is even more necessary to strengthen world solidarity with Cuba and promote all initiatives to stop the blockade. This is a key political activity for the European Left,' he ensured.
The leader noted the steadfast position of the PEL against the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba, and evoked its devastating effects.
