Cuban deputy PM held meeting with Russian FM

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 29 (ACN) Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, Cuban deputy prime minister, held a meeting on Monday with Serguei Lavrov, minister of foreign affairs of the Russian Federation, as part of the extensive program that the Cuban official is carrying out in that nation.

During the meeting, Lavrov recalled this visit takes place in a year full of important anniversaries for both countries: the 75th anniversary of the victory of the Great Patriotic War, the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Russia and the 40th anniversary of the joint Russian-Cuban flight carried out by Yuri Romanenko and Arnaldo Tamayo Mendez.
Both leaders also analyzed the important processes taking place at a global level, and also recognized that both Russia and Cuba continue to defend multilateralism, international law, the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and cooperation between countries, the Cuban foreign ministry reported on its website.
For his part, Cabrisas Ruiz updated the head of Russian diplomacy on the current moment the Caribbean nation is living and the difficulties it is facing as a result of the unprecedented tightening of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States, as well as the effects caused by the COVID-19 pandemic that also affects Russia as part of the world.
In view of this, the Russian foreign minister expressed full understanding and ratified the support to Cuba in its fight against the blockade, and also assured the commitment of his country to continue cooperating in the common interest fields.
Ana Teresita Gonzalez Fraga, first deputy minister of foreign trade and foreign investment, and Emilio Lozada Garcia, general director of bilateral affairs of Cuban foreign ministry, were present at the exchange.
