HAVANA, Cuba, Sept 1 (ACN) Cuba's alternate permanent representative to the United Nations, Ana Silvia Rodriguez, rejected the selective manipulation of the Security Council's methods and practices, based on political and domination agendas.
When speaking in the presentation of the Annual Report of the Security Council, Rodriguez criticized how, on occasions, this entity shows interference in matters outside its competence, in particular in those that concern the mandate of the General Assembly.
Likewise, there is a politicization in the examination of several issues subject to the consideration of the body.
Using the Security Council as a tool of political pressure against sovereign States must cease, she highlighted.
The Cuban ambassador joined the voices that demand an exhaustive and analytical report to the General Assembly, which allows an assessment of the causes and implications of the Council's decisions.
As she underscored, we do not need a mere descriptive overview of the meetings, activities and decisions.
Rodriguez also reiterated Cuba's support for a comprehensive reform of the Security Council, including its working methods, to make it a crystal-clear, democratic and representative body, adjusted to the evolution of the United Nations and international relations.
