HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 27 (ACN) The Russian Government condemned today the recent disabling of Cuban media accounts on YouTube platform, an act that it classified as arbitrary and contrary to freedom of access to information.
Maria Zajarova, spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of that country, criticized the cancellation last August 20 of the profiles on that network of the Cubadebate website, the Cubavisión Internacional channel, Granma newspaper and the Mesa Redonda TV program.
It is an arbitrary act, of an openly restrictive nature, which violates the democratic principles accepted by all and limits the freedom of access to information, said Zajarova.
Last Thursday, the technological giant Google, which owns YouTube, suspended the profiles of these Cuban entities, under the pretext of an alleged violation of a 1945 provision that prevents the United States from exporting products and services to countries considered Marxist-Leninist.
The disabling of the profiles lasted two days and, according to the vice president of the Association of Cuban Journalists, Rosa Miriam Elizalde, it was an extension to the digital sphere of the US blockade against the Caribbean island.
Through her profile on the social network Twitter, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel denounced that said action occurred just when Cuban scientists announced the strategy for the development of the vaccine candidate against Covid-19.
