HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 21 (ACN) Cuban canoeist Yinnolis Franchesca Lopez will seek her second gold medal today in the continuation of the canoeing tournament at the 2nd Junior Pan American Games in Asuncion 2025, Paraguay, now in the single-seater (C-1) 500-meter event.
After winning the title in the C-1 200-meter event on Wednesday, Yinnolis will try to climb to the top of the podium again, with the stage set in the bay of that Paraguayan city, the venue for the multi-sport competition that will conclude next Saturday, along with the canoe and kayak events.
According to the official website, the Cuban a finalist at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games in the C-2 500-meter event alongside Parisian champion and world champion Yarisleidis Cirilo, appears among the favorites to advance directly to the final.
In the 200 meters, Yinnolis led the field with a time of 49.79 seconds, followed by the canoes of Canada (50.07) and Brazil (50.67), who took silver and bronze, respectively.
Also competing for Cuba Thursday are Maria Claudia Alvarez in the women's K-1 500 meters, Julio Cesar Suarez in the men's K-1 500 meters, and Javier Requeiro in the men's C-1 500 meters, the latter in a direct final.
Cubans Maria Claudia and kayaker Suarez, who finished fourth in their respective finals in the K-1 200 meters and 1,000 meters, and canoeist Elvis Barbaro Reyes, who placed fifth in the C-1 1,000 meters, also competed for the Caribbean island.
Cuba will also compete in Asuncion with canoeist Diorgina Castillo and kayakers Lismary Bombino Rasua, Anthony La Madrid, and Carlos Daniel Abreu.
