HAVANA, Cuba, August 11 (ACN) Cuban athletics returned to the European podium with Silinda Morales' victory on Sunday and Mario Alberto Diaz's bronze medal at the discus throw at the Sollentuna Folksam Grand Prix, a Bronze category event on the World Athletics Continental Tour.
In the women's event, Morales won with a throw of 64.67 meters, achieved on her second attempt after opening with a foul.
Cuban discus thrower kept technical stability with additional times of 62.09, 59.91, 63.01, and 61.43 meters, beating local Vanessa Kamga (64.65 m) by just two centimeters, while Germany's Shanice Craft finished third (63.62 m).
With this result, Morales confirms her qualification for the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, to be held September 13 to 21.
Among the men, according to the competition venue, Diaz once again showed his competitive progress by finishing third with a throw of 65.44 meters on his final attempt, in a competition dominated by Sweden's Daniel Ståhl (68.02 m) and followed by Slovenia's Kristjan Čeh (66.19 m).
Diaz, currently ranked 31st in the world, remains in the qualifying zone for Tokyo 2025, following a European tour in which he already achieved a personal best with a throw of 67.44 m in Luxembourg.
Experts emphasize that these results reaffirm that the Cuban discus maintains its relevance and projection among the world's elite ahead of the world championships, which will be held in Japan.
