HAVANA, Cuba, August 10 (ACN) Cuba’s coxed eight won the bronze medal and opened the island's medal count in the rowing tournament of the II Junior Pan American Games, under way in Asunción, Paraguay.
The Cuban racing shell covered the 2,000 meters of the aquatic track in 5:45.96 min, behind the boats from Chile (5:42.26 min) and Brazil (5:45.75 min).
This result represents the continuity of the historic performances of Cuban senior coxed eights, which have won two gold medals (in 1991 and 2023), one silver medal (1975), and five bronze medals (1967, 1979, 1995, 1999, and 2019) in these events.
The remaining Cuban rowers who competed on Sunday went medal-less, as the men’s double scull and coxless double were fifth and sixth, respectively, whereas the women’s single scull finished ended in ninth place.
