HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 11 (ACN) The Cuban team Leñadores de Las Tunas stumbled for the first time in the American Baseball Champions League when they lost 15-19 to Kane County Cougars, from the American Association of the United States.
With this setback, they finished second in Group B and will have to look for the ticket to the semifinals in today's game, in a decisive duel against the Florida Titans in a "do-or-die" game.
La "Pesadilla Oriental"(The Eastern Nightmare), despite their offensive power -46 runs in two games- the Leñadores left many doubts in defense and pitching. In their last game, the 15-19 thrashing against the Kane County Cougars was a hard blow, when four pitchers could not contain the Americans, and although Ruben Rodriguez put out the fire in his relief, it was too late.
The pitching staff tolerated 24 hits, including three home runs, and the defense also failed with four errors. Even so, the team led by Abeyci Pantoja showed grit by coming from behind twice and tying a score that seemed lost.
Friday there is no room for mistakes. The Titans come beaten after two heavy defeats, but anything can happen on the diamond. The team that wins will remain in the fight; the team that loses, will be out of the tournament.
