HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 22 (ACN) After losing three games in the preliminary stage of the World Handball Championship held in Norway, Denmark and Croatia, the Cuban national team will be opposite Bahrain in the opener of the President's Cup, an event to establish the places 26th to 32nd of the international competition.
Cuba’s return to the World Championship after 16 was marked by losses to Slovenia (41-19), Iceland (40-19) and Cape Verde (28-38) that made it impossible to advance to the Main Round and left the Cubans with the worst record of goals scored and allowed, namely -53.
Team Cuba will play in Pool 2 alongside Bahrain, the United States, and Japan.
This is the eighth time that Cuba competed in world championships, with its best result in Egypt 1999, when the island finished in eighth place after losing to Sweden in the quarterfinals.
