Cuban Castro wins quota for Asuncion 2025 at Mayan Wind Fest tournament

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 20 (ACN) Cuban sailboat racer Adriano Castro Ortiz qualified for the 2nd edition of the Junior Pan American Games of Asuncion 2025, by finishing fourth in the Formula Kite of the Mayan Wind Fest tournament, held at the Marina Puerto Cancun, Mexico.

According to the Cuban sailing group on Facebook, Castro Ortiz accumulated 24 points in the 11 races held in that class, behind a Mexican (10), a Brazilian (14) and another local (22), so he got the third ticket of the four available, since only one athlete from each country qualifies.

The other four Cubans attending the qualifier were left without places for the multisport event in Asuncion, scheduled to take place August 9 to 23, with the closest to obtain that purpose was Miguel Angel Abad Diaz, who finished eighth in the eight races of the iQFoil with 68 points, surpassed by sailors from Argentina, Antigua and Barbuda (2), Mexico (3), Guatemala and the United States, and shared four quotas.

Lisbetsy Rojo Salazar was 11th in ILCA 6 with 91 points in eight races, Rafael Soria Durán finished 14th with 95 points in eight races of ILCA 7, and Elizabeth Buchillon Gorenzo was tenth and last with 104 points in 10 races of the iQFoil with the note that she did not compete in any of them.
In none of these three cases were they able to reach any of the tickets distributed, three, four and the same amount, respectively.

Cancun brought together nearly 400 sailors from 16 countries, all with their focus on Asuncion.
