LAS TUNAS, Cuba, Jan 8 (ACN) Several of the 11 reinforcements from various provinces taken by Las Tunas Leñadores, current Cuban league champion, to play in the Series of the Americas, to be held on January 24 to 30, have already joined the team’s training sessions in this city.
Head coach Abeisy Pantoja pointed out that the players are mostly doing swinging and hitting drills to fine-tune the team’s best weapon―its batting power―albeit without disregarding base running and pitching practice.
“We are at a brisk pace to improve teamwork, taking into account that our 11 reinforcements come from different teams and we have little time to train”, Pantoja remarked. “The Leñadores will play against better pitchers than ours, but if we manage to keep the ball rolling the Series of the Americas will have us to reckon with”.
