Cuba debuts today in Caribbean Baseball Cup

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 23 (ACN) The Cuban baseball team made up of young talents will debut today in the 6th Caribbean Cup, held in Nassau, Bahamas.

Cuba, defending champions after beating Curacao 3-1 in the 2023 final to break an eight-year-long string of losses in international baseball tournaments, aims to keep the title again this year.

The Cubans will first be opposite first-year team St. Maarten, followed by the two-time champions the Dominican Republic on Thursday, the U.S. Virgin Islands on Friday, the Bahamas on Saturday, and 2021 winner Curacao on Sunday to close pool play.

After five games, the third and fourth-place finishers will play for bronze, and the first two teams will compete for the title on Monday, October 28.

“We will strive to win the championship. You are going to see a hard-to-beat, resolved and disciplined team. I always sum it all up in one sentence: individual actions define games, collective actions define championships,” Cuban head coach Alexander Urquiola remarked right before the team left for Nassau.
