HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 20 (ACN) Cuban Greco-Roman wrestler and five-time Olympic winner Mijain Lopez was recognized as Male Sports Personality of the Year by the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC).
The news was announced from Turks and Caicos Islands, venue of the CANOC Awards ceremony attended by the legendary Cuban athlete together with the president and secretary-general of the Cuban Olympic Committee (COI), Roberto León Richards and Ruperto Herrera Tabío, respectively.
In a post on its Facebook page, COI congratulated López and called him Cuba’s pride.
Panam Sports highlighted the recognition granted to the Cuban after his historic performance in Paris 2024 and a retirement that marks the end of an era in Greco-Roman wrestling.
