HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 29 (ACN) Cuba became world champion after beating Italy 2-1 in the final of the 2nd Blind Baseball International Cup, held in Slough, Great Britain.
In a tremendous match held at Farnham Park, Team Cuba defeated the Italians, defending champions, with whom they had notched up a tie in the opening round.
Both teams scored in the first inning, but the crucial breakthrough came in the bottom of the fourth when Cuba hit two singles and Maikel Barroso RBI’d with a grounder down the infield to give his team a lead that Italy could not match in the rest of the game.
Sponsored by the WBSC and organized by the British Baseball Federation, the Cup aimed to provide visually impaired athletes with a platform to showcase their talent at the highest level.
