Cuban canoeist Yarisleidis Cirilo receives AIPS America Award



HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 17 (ACN) Cuban canoeist Yarisleidis Cirilo Duboys, Olympic bronze medalist in Paris 2024, received the Award to the Best Female Athlete of 2023 granted by the International Association of Sports Journalists (AIPS) America.

The site of the sports publication JIT highlighted that the Nicaraguan Moises Avalos, first vice president of AIPS America, presented her on Monday the recognition in a special ceremony organized in one of the headquarters of the International Institute of Journalism Jose Marti, of the Cuban Journalists Association (UPEC by its Spanish acronym).

“I am happy, very happy, for me this is exciting and important”, expressed to those present Cirilo, who is also world champion and of the Pan American Games of Santiago 2023 in the canoe C-1 200 meters, accompanied by the president of the Cuban Federation of Canoeing, Alejandro Hamze, and the head of the UPEC, Ricardo Ronquillo.

In 2023, the awards also recognized the Best Media Center: Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, Best Team: Mexico Women's National Soccer Team, and Best Male Athlete: Ronald Acuña (Baseball/Venezuela).

AIPS America organizes the AIPS Sport Media Awards, which recognize the best work in sports journalism worldwide in categories such as photography, video, audio and writing.
