HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 15 (ACN) The Cuban women's national team outmatched Egypt and climbed to 21st place with eight out of ten possible points in Chess Olympiad Budapest 2024.
Team Cuba won three games, whereas one ended in a draw, which prevented the island from sweeping the board.
As to the open tournament, Cuba lost 1-3 to the Netherlands, an expected result given the high level of the Europeans. However, the island’s Carlos Daniel Albornoz and Dylan Berdayes managed to agree draws with Anish Giri—one of the best in the world ranking—and Max Warmerdam, respectively.
This was Cuba’s second loss in the open, which pushed it down to the 51st position, as they hope to gain some ground in their next match against Japan.
