HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 8 (ACN) With six gold, three silver and one bronze medals, Cuba finished in 24th place at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
This result outmatched the island’s performance in Tokyo 2020, where the Cuban para athletes were 35th on the medal table with four titles, one silver and one bronze medal.
Para athletics was once again Cuba’s driving force with five gold medals, three of them won by the stellar runner Omara Durand in the 100m, 200m and 400m T12 events and the other two by the long jumper Robiel Yanquiel Sol Cervantes (T47) and the javelin thrower Guillermo Varona (F46). The sixth gold was achieved by the table tennis player Yunier Fernández.
The second places were for the sprinter Yamel Luis Vives in 100m, the powerlifter Pablo Ramirez (54 kg) and the judoka Sheyla Hernandez (+70 kg), whereas Ulicer Aguilera won the bronze medal in the javelin throw F13 competition.
