Cuban Yunier Fernandez with historic gold at Paralympics Games Paris 2024



HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 6 (ACN) Cuban Yunier Fernandez won a historic gold medal in table paratenis, corresponding to the 17th edition of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Fernandez defeated Great Britain's Robert Davies by a sweep of three sets to zero in the title match at the South Paris Arena, to give Cuba its first gold medal in that sport in events of that kind.

His victory in the final was achieved with scores of 14-12, 11-7 and 11-4, so he gave no chance to his rival in the decisive match, according to the official site of the event.

In one of the semifinals, on Wednesday, the Cuban athlete defeated 3-2 (15-13, 11-6, 4-11, 10-12 and 11-2) the Italian Federico Falco, in a duel in which he had to push himself to the maximum.

With this outstanding performance Cuba's delegation now has five gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze medal in Paris 2024.
