HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 4 (ACN) Cuba had a silver-lined day at the 2024 Paralympic Games and now boasts two gold and two silver medals, thanks mostly to sound performances in para athletics and para powerlifting.
Wednesday witnessed the second places achieved by the powerlifter Pablo Ramirez (54 kg), who hauled 187 kg, and the tennis table player Yunier Fernandez, who beat 3-2 the Italian Federico Falco in the semifinal and will now strive to get the gold on Friday.
On her end, the runner Omara Durand, current world record holder, qualified without a hitch for the 100m semifinals with a time of 11.87s. If she makes it to the top of the podium, she will get her second gold medal in Paris 2024—she already won the 400m event—and her ninth in Paralympic Games. And there’s still the 200m race, for which she is also deemed a shoo-in.
