HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 21 (ACN) Cuba’s Carlos Daniel Albornoz will need to up his game to leave a better image in the International Chess Festival under way in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Despite his win over the Indian Sharma Dushyant (2,324 ELO points), Albornoz is stuck in 113rd place with 2.5 points among more than 200 players attending this tournament.
As he prepares to lead his country’s team to the 2024 Chess Olympiad, to be held in mid-September in Budapest, Hungary, the two-time national champion has lost 14 points of his coefficient in Abu Dhabi, where he arrived with 2,599 points.
Next on his schedule is a game against the Kazakh Sauat Nurgaliyev (2,380).
