Cuban Jairo Guibert wins gold at World Masters Athletics Championships



 HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 20 (ACN) Cuban Jairo Guibert won the gold medal in the triple jump at the 2024 World Masters Athletics Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Guibert achieved a record of 15.02 meters (m) to win the title in this event in the over 40 years old category, and give Cuba the first gold medal in this event.

This winning mark was achieved in the second round of a sequence that began with 14.32 meters in his first attempt, according to the official website of the event. Then, he would reach 14.71 and 14.72 m, with the job already done to take the title.

The podium was completed by Japan's Hiroto Goto (14.77 m), and Majed Ghazi Mohamed (14.67 m), from Saudi Arabia, who took second and third place, respectively.

With this performance, Guibert added his second medal in this world event in Gothenburg, where on Sunday he won the silver medal in the long jump with 7.05m.
Previously, the high jumper Victor Moya became bronze medalist in the over 40 years old event.

In the same specialty, but for former athletes over 50 years old, Ioamnet Quintero finished eighth, and other members of the group such as Gabriel Alfonso (long jump and triple jump), Pablo Medina (high jump), as well as the triple jumpers Adonis Matos and Michel Martínez are still to compete.
