Cuba for second success today in women's volleyball Pan American Cup



HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 20 (ACN) The Cuban women's team will seek today against US its second success in the third day of Group B of the 21st North, Central America and Caribbean Pan American Cup (Norceca), to be held until next 25th in Leon and Irapuato, in the Mexican state of Guanajuato.

After losing 2-3 to Puerto Rico on Sunday and defeating Costa Rica 3-0 on Monday, Cubans will try to continue their winning path this Tuesday in Irapuato.

According to the website www.norceca.net, the Caribbean women will continue their progress in the B bracket against the Argentines on Wednesday and the Chileans on Thursday, in the closing match of the preliminary phase.

The other five matches today are Chile-Costa Rica and Puerto Rico-Argentina, in section B, and Dominican Republic-Suriname, Colombia-Peru and Mexico-Canada, in section A, to be played in Leon.

As decided at the technical meeting, after completing the elimination round by the round-robin system, the top teams in each bracket will advance to the semifinal round.

The second and third place finishers will advance to the quarterfinals, the fourth and fifth will advance to a qualifying round for positions seven through 10, while the last places will compete for positions 11 and 12.

Argentina is the defending champion, winning its first gold medal at last year's edition in Ponce, Puerto Rico, while the United States is the top winner of the Pan American Cup since its first version in 2002.
