Cuban women's 4x400 quartet far from final at Olympic athletics

PARIS, Aug 9 (ACN) The Cuban quartet of 4x400 meters flat (m/p), female category, was today far from the final in that event of athletics, in the Olympic Games of Paris 2024.

Melissa Padron, Daily Cooper, Sahily Diago and Roxana Gomez finished eighth and last in heat 1 of the first round, with a time of 3:33.99 minutes (min), far from the 3:29.36 min they have as the best mark of this season.

Of the four of them, Gomez was part of the winning team in the 4x400m/p relay at the World Relay Championships in Poland three years ago.

At the Stade de France, the first three quartets in each heat and the next two fastest among those that did not qualify directly advanced to the final.

With this result, Cuban representatives could not be included among the finalists as it happened in Tokyo 2020, where they finished eighth.

As expected, the US dominated in heat 1 (3:21.44 min), followed by Great Britain's runners (3:24.72 min) and the local French (3:24.73 min), according to the official website of the competition.
