Cuban Lazaro Marinez in triple jump final, others still in competition at Paris

PARIS, Aug 9 (ACN) Cuban Lazaro Martinez will compete today in the final of the triple jump at the Olympic Games in Paris, in a day with several semifinals for members of the Cuban delegation to this event.

At the Stade de France, the world indoor champion in 2022 and outdoor silver medalist last year, will try to get a place on the podium.

Martinez, the main exponent of the triple jump on the island, although far from his best marks, was the only one who advanced to the final and he did it with a 16.79 meters jump, a result that placed him in 11th position in the classification.

Pedro Pablo Pichardo and Jordan Diaz, also from Cuba, representing Portugal and Spain respectively, topped that phase with 17.44 and 17.24 meters.

Geandry Garzon, in the 74 kilogram men's wrestling, will debut in the round of 16 against Japan's Daichi Takatani, and will try to advance to the next stage.

And Marcos Antonio Rojas will participate in the semifinal B of the modern pentathlon, while on Thursday he finished the qualifying round of fencing (competing in the epee modality) in 36th place, with a balance of 10 wins and 25 losses.
