HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 8 (ACN) “You have given a lesson of good boxing, bravery and courage! Have a hug and warm congratulations!”, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel told Olympic champion Erislandy Álvarez over the phone.
The Cuban leader called Alvarez (63.5 kg) after he won the gold medal in Paris 2024, according to the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation in a post on X.
With his 3-2 victory, Alvarez got even with the French Sofiane Oumiha, who defeated him in the last world championship, and increased to 42 the number of gold medals that Cuban boxers have won in Olympic Games.
