Cuban wrestler Luis Alberto Orta lost in the quarterfinals

PARIS, France, Aug 7 (ACN) Cuban Greco-Roman wrestler Luis Alberto Orta (67 kg) fell today in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Olympic Games.

Orta—first in Tokyo 2020 and current world champion—lost 0-9 to the Iranian Saeid Esmaeili, who gave him no respite.

The Cuban had come to Paris with the goal of winning his second Olympic gold medal, but his dream was thwarted by Esmaeli’s strength, technique and speed.

In the round of 16, Orta beat 8-0 the Japanese Kyotaro Sogabe. Now he will have to wait and see whether the Iranian advances to the final to re-enter the event through a repechage round.
