PARIS, France, Aug 7 (ACN) Cuban high jumper Luis Enrique Zayas will missed out on the finals of the 2024 Olympic Games.
Zayas, champion of the 2019 and 2023 Pan American Games and fourth in the 2023 World Championships, could not jump higher than the 2.24 mark in the qualifying phase and thus failed to make it to the top 12 list.
Seven other athletes reached the same height but in fewer attempts.
So far, triple jumpers Liadagmis Povea and Leyanis Pérez, who finished fourth and fifth respectively, boast Cuba’s best performance in track and field, a sports which has earned the island 11 gold, 14 silver and 20 bronze medals in Olympic Games.
