Cuban judoka Idalis finishes without medal in Paris, but satisfied

PARIS, Aug 2 (ACN) Cuban judoka Idalis Ortiz finished the 33rd Olympic Games of Paris 2024 with the satisfaction of participating in her fifth Olympic Games and winning four medals, a record that ratifies her as Cuba's best medal winner.

Cuban accumulates one gold, two silver and one bronze medals, surpassing by color another great of this sport in Cuba, Driulis Gonzalez, who finished with the same number of Games, but with one gold, one silver and two bronze medals.

With the stage at the Arena Campo de Marte of this city, Idalis went determined to get on the podium, but it was not to be.

In the first bout she defeated India's Tulika Maan by Ippon in only two seconds, but in the next one she lost by the same way, but by three warnings - Shidos - against Serbia's Milica Zabic, who with that result ended the sports career of the Cuban delegation's flag-bearer, along with Greco-Roman wrestler Mijain Lopez.

In the mixed zone of the facility she arrived with her usual smile and very communicative. "I have the satisfaction of participating in my fifth Olympic Games. In the history of judo there are very few who have done it and almost none with four medals", she answered to the accredited press that was waiting for her.

"One bout was lost, but it was not a defeat. I think I won a fifth Olympic Games. I'm here and it's a great honor," she added.

She also spoke about her future plans. "I am in the best disposition to contribute to the development of judo in Cuba.I have a project in mind and I will fulfill it, for sure," she concluded with the usual smile and kisses for those who will always admire her.
