PARIS, Aug 2 (ACN) Cuban sprinter Yunisleidy Garcia was out of the semifinals today in the 100-meter dash, corresponding to the athletics of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Garcia, champion of the Pan American Games of Santiago de Chile 2023, finished fifth in heat 2 of the first round with a time of 11.37 seconds (s), far from the 11.30 s she has as personal best this season.
National record holder with 11.08 s, time achieved last year, the Cuban athlete could not be included among the first three to advance directly to the semifinal phase.
For each heat, the three fastest runners qualify, together with the owners of the three best times, for a total of 27 sprinters who will continue competing.
In the race in which Garcia was present, Julien Alfred (10.95 s), from St. Lucia, won, followed by Zoe Hobbs (11.08 s), from New Zealand, and Italy's Zaynab Dosso (11.30 s), who completed the leading trio, according to the official site of the competition.
Cuba will be represented in that sport by 18 athletes, led by world triple medalists Leyanis Perez, Lazaro Martinez and Cristian Napoles.
