HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 2 (ACN) The Cuban beach volleyball pair Noslen Díaz and Jorge Luis Alayo won the silver medal at the World Pro Tour Challenge Tournament in Stare Jablonki, Poland, after losing 1-2 in the final to the Czech Republic's Onderj Perusic and David Schweiner.
The Cubans had earned the right to play for the gold after winning a 2-1 victory over the Argentinean brothers Nicolás and Tomás Copogrosso, who eventually lost 2-0 to the Dutch Boermans-De Groot.
Díaz and Alayo’s win keeps them on 19th place—above the cutoff line—of the world ranking for the 2024 Olympic Games.
The Cubans could otherwise secure a berth in Paris by winning the NORCECA qualifier to be held on June 19 to 24 in Tlaxcala, Mexico.
