HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 2 (ACN) Cuban boxer Fernando Arzola (+92 kg) lost 3-2 in the quarterfinals to Ecuador's German Gilman Congo in the 2024 World Qualification Tournament held in Bangkok, Thailand.
After beating the Mongolian Byeknur Khali 5-0 in the round of 16 the day before, Arzola was obliged to win his fight with the Ecuadorian to get the Olympic ticket.
With this result, Cuba will have five boxers in Paris 2024, since the other Cuban who competed in Bangkok, Jorge Cuellar (71 kg), lost 0-5 to Ireland's Aidan Walsh.
Cuba will be represented in Paris by Erislandi Alvarez (63.5 kg), two-time Olympic champions Julio César La Cruz (92 kg) and Arlen López (80 kg), world silver medalist Saidel Horta (57 kg), and world bronze medalist Alejandro Claro (51 kg).
